Eleven Match Ratings vs New York Cosmos

Match Ratings LogoNetting two goals in the final six minutes to drive an Indy Eleven defeat of the New York Cosmos earned Eamon Zayed the week 3 Brew Wallace Man of the Match. With this final (and most prestigious) recognition, Zayed has collected a “Grand Slam” of weekly awards, including the league’s NASL Player Of The Week, Team Of The Week and Play Of The Week, in the third round of the Spring Season.

Zayed received a match rating of 8.50, an aggregate score based on ratings from 20 fans of the beautiful game. Other Eleven players rated highly in the match versus the Cosmos include goalkeeper Jon Bush (7.40), forward Justin Braun (7.26) and midfielder Dylan Mares (7.26).

Coach Tim Hankinson, who surprised both friend and foe with a change in formation at kickoff, also received a very high rating (8.35) this week. His strategic adjustments and timely substitutions reflect a gaffer who is confident, adaptable and in tune with his players.

While many of the Boys In Blue received their highest ratings to date, match referee Geoff Gamble received the lowest rating (3.75) of an official we’ve polled. It’s a short list as Gamble also oversaw Indy’s week 1 match versus Tampa Bay; he received a much higher rating (5.79) in that match.

Supporter opinions were most split on Duke Lacroix and Brad Ring, a trend recognized in last week’s notes. The theory of this trend is that the two fan favorites receive “bonus” points due to fan bias for them. The bias seems to result in a higher deviation from the norm than other players.

Finally, soccer fans in the Circle City are feeling more optimistic about Indy’s ability to compete with the league leaders. After a disappointing draw versus Ottawa in week 2, respondents projected a 5th place finish. Indy picked up three points in their fucking of the Cosmos (Sorry, had to say it!) and now fans have a 3rd place finish in their sights.
